Like any Roald Dahl books, The Witches is fantastic for its imaginative storytelling, absurd humour, inventive words and likeable main characters that you’re comfortable rooting for. There is a chain smoking Norwegian grandma here, and she’s smoking big ass cigars. She’s my favourite and she’s also modelled after Roald Dahl’s real grandma who it seems, is a bit of a badass herself.
Look, I didn’t read much when I was a kid so I had to catch up on Roald Dahl books as an adult, and in some ways the 36 year old me would probably enjoy it more than the 12 year old me, because what the hay, witches aren’t as cool as the Wu Tang Clan. I would just go right ahead and slap that child in the face.
